The Bosman Family has a history of choosing a different path, of challenging themselves to find a solution in the unexpected. This family has been propagating vines and making wine in the Bovlei region of Wellington for 8 generations. But true to form, they went in search of a cool climate vineyard that would complement the ‘terroir’ of the Bovlei. The Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley proved just the answer. One of the largest producers of vines to the wine and grape industry, the Bosmans were also looking for a suitable site on which to propagate. So the Vine Garden on the farm, showcases every clone and varietal the nursery produces, which makes a wander through in summer a rare treat. In fact, a visit to this farm is a treat all round. The Frame House is a modern wood and canvas structure that houses the Tasting Room and Picnic Service area. Baskets can be ordered ahead of time and enjoyed on the veranda overlooking the vineyards and fields of indigenous ‘fynbos’. There is also a tasting menu that changes seasonally paired with wines from both farms. . Two hiking trails leave from the Frame House: the Koppie Trail is a short hour‐long stroll up a gentle hill where spectacular views await; and the longer Wetland Trail through the vineyards and fynbos is for the more adventurous. Both are child friendly and a self‐guide brochure makes the journey all the more interesting.
