They called their wine brand after the village founded in 1855 and ended up with the longest Afrikaans wine name in the world. Sounds funny, yet with passion and purpose: in honour of Hermanus Pieters - the Dutch teacher - imported by Overberg farmers in the 1800's to tutor their children in Nederlands - forerunner of Afrikaans. The only wine brand in South Africa offering Afrikaans wine names exclusively, is testimony to their lack of self-importance. "While we don't take ourselves seriously, we're serious about making good wine."
Grapes come from their cool climate BWI Champion farm in Sondagskloof - heart of South Africa's premium wine producing region. Under watchful eye of viticulturist Lochner Bester, they respect BWI guidelines for responsible and sustainable farming. Their philosophy? Good Earth makes Better Wines.
The Saturday Kos & Wynmark is the most favoured meeting, greeting, eating place, and the largest tented venue under the Overberg sun.
