The Overberg wine route has become one of the most sought-after wine destinations in South Africa.
Benguela Cove at No 50, this wine region now has world-class winemaking status.
And this comes from pure dedication, hard work and a deep love for its climate,
terroir and people.
Since 1992, when I first bought a tiny country house in Stanford, I have seen the
area flourish, seen small vineyards and wineries popping up, growing and expanding,
year after year. My love of tasting and exploring wine and the wine estates from this
region led to the first publication of my Overberg Country Maps in 2003. The popularity of the area expanded, with Hermanus and smaller Overberg towns becoming
precious weekend retreats and holiday homes, and we published the first Overberg
Wine Guide booklet in 2007 with the addition of restaurants and accommodation.
We’ve been through much hardship. The harsh recession from 2007– 2011, the following severe drought, the veld fires, the devaluation of the rand, loadshedding and
now another onslaught brought on by severe flooding in the Overberg. But these
challenges have only made the vines and the people stronger, more characterful,
more unique and have even beckoned many more visitors to our beautiful land.
We will stay strong and hopeful; we will keep making great and exquisite wines the
area is now known for.
We welcome all visitors to our breathtaking, varied landscape and stunning coastline
… and, of course, to the wonderful wine estates.
Here, in the Overberg, there is a wonderful wine experience awaiting you.

Just a quick note, firstly to compliment you on a wonderful Overberg Wine guide booklet.
I have a small bnb and host mostly North European guests from Sweden, Norway, Holland, Germany and France.
The guests absolutely love the Hemel en Aarde Valley wine route and we are deeply proud of it.
Your guide is always top rank and easy to pop in a handbag or travel with.
I was surprised and delighted to find this wonderful comprehensive guide at my guesthouse in Hermanus. I didn’t know that these wine routes existed and had a great time exploring them on my holiday.
Thank you for creating this very information and easy to use guide.
We just love these professionally produced guides as they help bring holidaymakers and locals to our tasting room.
