Overberg Wine –
A sense of place
Our wine region begins as you cross “over the mountain” (Over-Berg) at Sir Lowry’s Pass. Immediately, you’re enveloped by a sense of expansiveness – more farmland, more wild terrain, interspersed with carefully cultivated pockets of vines.
“Great wine is the taste of a place
and a snapshot in time.”
Overberg Wine Routes
The Overberg stretches from beyond the Hottentots-Holland Mountains and along the Cape South Coast to the start of the Garden Route. Here, among rolling hills of fragrant fynbos, you will find a land of big skies, with canola and wheat fields, orchards and vineyards stretching to the horizon, and a rugged coastline teeming with marine life.
Its wine country is one of the many jewels in the Overberg’s crown, producing some of the freshest and most exciting wines in the country, waiting to be discovered.

Farm-to-table delights in the heart of the Overberg
Overstrand Hermanus is Africa’s first UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy. This prestigious distinction recognises the region’s exceptional culinary landscape and farm-to-table ethos. The emphasis is on sustainable and eco-friendly farming and fishing practices, and local chefs and restaurateurs embrace the cornucopia of local produce to create fresh, seasonal and innovative dishes that cater to various dietary preferences. Enjoy a taste of our region in a scenic setting, be it among rolling vineyards, on the seafront, or in a quaint village street.
