A hidden treasure for wine lovers, Whalehaven is the third oldest wine estate in the Hemel-en-Aarde, after Hamilton Russell and Bouchard Finlayson. A secret of the valley, this boutique cellar is situated at the entrance to the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley and has for nearly three decades been under the ownership of the Bottega Family and gentle steerage of winemaker Reino Thiart.
Regarded for their rarity and prestige, the reserve range – Conservation Coast – is a collection of site-specific Chardonnay and Pinot Noirs that are worthy of seeking out. Masters of vineyard expression across the appellation, Whalehaven seeks out the best grapes from the cool-climate terroir of the Upper- Hemel-en-Aarde Valley and the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, and the range includes a Sauvignon Blanc, a rich and buttery Chardonnay, and two Pinot Noirs with great complexity and depth. From the family’s own vineyards, they also have earned the pedigree of crafting one of the leading Cabernet Francs in the country with five gold accolades and a platinum award.
